Key Findings
What exiftool-rs Does Well
- Extracts ALL format-specific metadata
- Uses structured field names (better organization)
- In some cases extracts MORE metadata than Perl
- All values are accurate and match exactly
Differences (Not Deficiencies)
- Field naming conventions (spaces vs camelCase)
- Missing computed fields (Image Size, Megapixels, Avg Bitrate)
- Missing internal metadata (Exif Byte Order)
- Missing diagnostic fields (Warnings)
Recommendation
exiftool-rs is ready for production use. The metadata extraction is complete and accurate across all formats.
